SAMANTHA ELLEY suggests we take a “leaf” out of the books of nature when it comes to praising the Lord…

“Praise Yahweh from the Earth,
you great sea creatures, and all depths…
mountains and all hills;
fruit trees and all cedars;
wild animals and all livestock;
small creatures and flying birds…” – Psalm 148: 7, 9, 10 (WEB)
When I used to drive to a local town for my job, I went past a paddock that had the remains of a huge tree in it. The trunk was all that was left and it still stood a few metres tall, tapering at the top, looking like a huge pointing finger.
“Go to a charismatic church service and you will see people acting like trees. Maybe trees discovered the act of worship before people.”
As I drove past, I couldn’t help but see it as pointing to God. Something He created, even in its last remnants, was a sign post of sorts, telling drivers to look to Him.
It was then I started to notice that other pieces of flora and even some fauna, seemed to be pointing to the heavens, honouring their creator. I took the dog for a walk to the beach recently and the large pine trees planted along the shoreline were all standing proudly, branches outstretched, as if in honour and praise of Yahweh, just as Psalm 148 describes.
With my ‘creation praising’ glasses on, I notice now how plants, bushes, trees and even weeds, more often than not, reach high to the sky.

The same goes for animals. Our little dog loves to point his nose towards the sun or in the wind and it is as if he is listening to heavenly voices, or praying a few words (barks). He even likes to sit up on his hind legs and put his paws up, but that might be more for a bone or bikkie.

Not to be deterred, I love watching the birds fly, the fish swim, whales breach, even snakes slithering, as that is what God created them to do. By being what they are and doing what they are made to do, they are giving the glory to Him.
Now, if only we humans could take a ‘leaf’ out of the books of nature around us. If there was more praising and gratitude from us, there would be less room for negativity.
If you keep reading the psalm above, it mentions kings of the Earth and all nations, you princes and all rulers on earth, young men and women, old men and children to also praise the Lord.
That’s what we were created to do.
