SAMANTHA ELLEY on the joys – and challenges – of completing a jigsaw – and how that might serve as a metaphor for our relationship with God…

“There is one body, but it has many parts. But all its many parts make up one body. It is the same with Christ.” – I Corinthians 12: 12
I love jigsaw puzzles.
I have always loved doing them, but quite often, when bringing up two little boys and having a full-time job, there was no time to sit and just enjoy the process of finding the right pieces to make a beautiful picture.
“We are all parts of God’s puzzle, all have our special part to play to complete the picture of His love for us.”
Hubby likes doing jigsaw puzzles too, although he likes the 500 pieces, whereas I go for 1,000 pieces and above.
We had a huge collection of them before a recent flood as hubby would go to garage sales and buy cheap puzzles people were throwing out.
His pet hate was always getting to the end of one and finding there was a piece missing. Not a big surprise when you buy them second-hand.
We lost our collection of puzzles in the flood but the family we were staying with while our house was being fixed also love jigsaw puzzles and always had one on the go.
It was a real blessing to sit with a couple of people and work through the process of making an outstanding landscape, art work or whatever the picture ended up being.
My friend and I had worked so diligently on one puzzle, that when we got to the last piece, we would put it in together. Then there would be much rejoicing!
My process is to try and find the edges first, then I look for similar patterns or colours and group them together.
As I sift through the thousand pieces, I always know there is one piece that will never be found for its section until near the end.
But it always gets found, as it is the only piece that can fully complete the picture where it is to be placed.

Can you see where I am going with this?
We are all parts of God’s puzzle, all have our special part to play to complete the picture of His love for us.
Not one of us is unusable. Even if every person is in their place, if you aren’t, the picture is not complete.
And that makes my hubby cranky. *wink*
