• There’s a royal wedding coming up – and that means royal wedding cake. But if you’re not one of the invited guests, getting hold of a piece could be tricky so you may want to consider an upcoming auction in Las Vegas at which slices of cakes from previous royal weddings will go under the hammer. Five pieces of cake – including a piece from the 1981 wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana, another from the 2011 wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and one from the wedding of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson – will be auctioned to the highest bidders by Julien’s Auction at the Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Resort and Casino on 23rd June. Slices of cake from the weddings of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005 and Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips in 1973 will also be up for grabs.

• Star Wars fans around the world recently marked ‘May the Fourth’ – the unofficial Star Wars celebration day – and among those paying tribute were the UK’s Heathrow Airport. It’s departures board listed a range of flights to some rather odd destinations with odd flight codes and notes about delays. Among them were flights to Tatooine (flight code R2D2), Hoth, Jakku, Endor and Death Star while a flight to Alderaan – Princess Leia’s home world which was wiped out by the Death Star – was cancelled in what was interpreted as a mark of respect. Hopefully no-one was sent off in the wrong direction.
• A 2,500-year-old city has reportedly gone on sale in Turkey. The privately owned 130 hectare site which contains the remains of Bargylia, once a Greek city located near the Aegean resort of Bodrum, has been advertised with a reported price tag of about $US8.3 million. The remains include a theatre, acropolis, walls and necropolis and are a protected archaeological site. Part of the site – a monastery – is apparently used as an animal shelter. One of the owners has reportedly told the Hurriyet newspaper that he can’t afford to protect the site and is hopeful the government will step in.
