Michael Pailthorpe appointed new national director of Sports Chaplaincy Australia

Christian-based chaplaincy network Sports Chaplaincy Australia has announced the appointment of Michael Pailthorpe as its new national director.

Mr Pailthorpe, a former CEO of Habitat for Humanity Australia and Variety WA as well as a former NSW state manager for World Vision Australia, takes up his role on 12th March. The move comes after long-serving Cameron Butler stepped out of the role of national director at the end of last year.

Luke Tattersall, chairman of the SCA board, said Mr Pailthorpe’s background “show that he has skills to build on and grow Sports Chaplaincy Australia”.

“He is passionate about serving people, and has a deep love for sport.”

Mr Pailthorpe said in a statement that he was “honoured and privileged” to be offered the role.

“SCA through its chaplains has such a rich history of serving clubs and sporting communities through Australia and I’m looking forward over the coming weeks and months to meeting and working with all of our key stakeholders including the local churches, sporting clubs, sponsors, supporters and of course the hundreds of dedicated chaplains that serve our sporting communities every day.”

Sports Chaplaincy Australia, based in Victoria, was established in 1984 and exists to grow and support sports chaplains.
