Lyle Shelton, former Australian Christian Lobby managing director, has joined Senator Cory Bernardi’s Australian Conservatives as federal director of communications and party spokesman.
Senator Bernardi said the party was delighted to have “someone with Lyle’s passion and skills to help take our movement to the next level.”
“Lyle will play a key role in the development of the party in Queensland and nationally.”
Mr Shelton, who announced on Saturday that he had departed from the ACL after more than 10 years with the organisation, said he had returned to his home state of Queensland to “help build a conservative political movement capable of winning Senate seats at the next federal election”.
“Australian Conservatives provides a home for any Australian who is concerned about the Federal Government’s skyrocketing debt, loss of basic freedoms and social engineering programs like the controversial ‘Safe Schools’ program,” he said.
“Having worked closely with Senator Bernardi during the plebiscite campaign, I am looking forward to working to help build a movement that will stand for conservative values and offer Australians a better way.”
Martyn Iles has been appointed the new managing director of the ACL.
