A QUARTER OF AIRASIA CRASH VICTIMS CAME FROM SAME CHURCH IN SURABAYA

6th January, 2014

A quarter of the 162 victims of AirAsia Flight QZ 8501 came from the same Pentecostal church in Surabaya, it was reported earlier this week.

CBSNews reported on Sunday that 13 families from the Mawar Sharon Church in Indonesia’s second largest city lost members when the plane, en route from Surabaya to Singapore, went down over the Java Sea early on 28th December. No-one is believed to have survived the crash.

Around 100 family members of the victims gathered at the church on Sunday where Rev Philip Mantofa urged them to find comfort in their faith.

More than 35 bodies have so far been retrieved from the water but bad weather has hindered recovery operations.
