US televangelist and builder of California’s Crystal Cathedral, Rev Robert H Schuller, died last week at the age of 88.
Rev Schuller, the founder of TV ministry, The Hour of Power – which he hosted from 1970 until 2010, had been diagnosed with esophageal cancer in August, 2013. He died last Thursday, 2nd April, in a care facility in Artesia near Los Angeles.

Rev Schuller started the Garden Grove Community Church at a drive-in theatre in 1955 and as the congregation grew, it began broadcasting its services through The Hour of Power, which was broadcast to millions of viewers worldwide.
The Crystal Cathedral was dedicated in 1980 and for years was the location from where The Hour of Power was broadcast. It was sold in early 2012 for $57.5 million in bankruptcy-court proceedings to the Catholic Diocese of Orange and has since been renamed Christ Cathedral.
Rev Schuller’s grandson, Bobby Schuller, is now pastoring the church – which has moved to a different location – and is now the host of The Hour of Power TV telecast.
Rev Schuller’s wife, Arvella Schuller, died in February of 2014 after a brief illness. She was 84.
A funeral service will be held for Rev Schuller on 20th April in Christ Cathedral.
