It seems that every generation a moral issue emerges that divides church and society. The heat around the issue is extraordinary.
The issue becomes one that our eternal destiny seems to hang on. If you agree, you are damned forever – or, you are one of the righteous ones, standing for truth.
We have a long history of these issues in the church. Divorce, dancing, drinking, gambling, pre-destination, woman in leadership, slavery, and even whether the communion bread becomes the actual body of Jesus. We’ve killed each other over these issues.
Same-sex marriage is hot today. I’m here to say your eternal destiny does not hinge on how you vote. Friendships should not hang on your position. We write people off on this issue. That is wrong.
Let’s be kind to one another. Let’s remember who it is that really saves.
