CHRISTMAS IN KYRGYZSTAN

I have some friends who work in Kyrgyzstan, part of the former USSR. Christmas there is very interesting.

Manger

THREATENING? What is it about the birth of Christ that our systems find so threatening? PICTURE: Greyson Joralemon/Unsplash.

The communists eliminated Christmas. You don’t celebrate on 25th December, rather you give presents at New Year, under your New Year tree, with Father Frost coming down the chimney.

It’s weird, all the trappings of Christmas, without the baby in the manger.

The communists intentionally tried to rid their world of Christmas, but capitalism has done it by stealth: “Oh you can remember Jesus if you want to; but Santa and elves and reindeer are so much more fun.”

Communism, capitalism – why are they so afraid of this manger baby? It just says to me all the things they say about this baby must be true. Why else would these systems feel so threatened?
