EDITORIAL: WELCOME TO 2017!

2017

Sight editor DAVID ADAMS looks to the year ahead…

Welcome to 2017. We at Sight pray you had a peaceful end to 2016 amid the hope that faith in Christ brings and look forward to journeying with you in the coming year.

2016 was a busy year on Sight – in July we launched our new website (a massive effort on behalf of all involved) and pray you have enjoyed its offerings including easier navigation, an upgraded comments system and mobile adaptive capability. Of course, we’re continuing our work on the site to improve and enhance your experience on it and will do so across the coming year.

In conjunction with the launch of the new website, we’ve also considerably expanded our coverage – both through our own network of contributors based in Australia and overseas as well as through the various news services that we partner with, now including the US-based Religion News Service.

2017 will see us continue to expand our reach as we report on what’s happening around the world and look for new and innovative ways to bring you news and issues from a Christian perspective. We’ll be adding a range of new content types to the site – including launching some new columns – and look to add to the range of voices regularly contributing essays and other content.

We’re also launching a number of other new initiatives this year which, as well as including a series of live events, will also include the Sight Ambassador’s program.

One of our aims at Sight has always been to support local churches in the work they do and, to help encourage this connection in a more direct way, the Sight Ambassadors’ initiative will provide ‘ambassadors’ with a suite of ideas looking at how they can more fully leverage Sight content in their local church.

Every month these ‘ambassadors’ will receive an email highlighting how our content can be used in the church context to highlight news and issues relevant to the Christian walk, whether it’s encouraging church members to make a stand against slavery, share the Gospel with their community in a different way or spend time in prayer for the persecuted church.

We’re looking to launch the program early this year and in the meantime are encouraging anyone who is interested in becoming a Sight Ambassador to simply email us ([email protected]) to express their interest (and don’t forget to tell us which church you go to!)  The program is open to churches both in Australia and elsewhere in the world. More details will be forthcoming in the coming weeks.

Thanks for your support throughout 2016 – whether it’s been through prayer, financial support or simply by being one of our weekly email subscribers. We look forward to bringing you more informative, challenging and inspiring coverage of news and issues from across the globe throughout 2017.
