I love trifle. The dessert where you mix jelly, custard, cake, fruit and cream? Yum-o!
It might surprise you to learn that trifles were developed to use up leftovers.
In the days of no fridges, stale cake was soaked in wine, mixed with other leftover or fresh ingredients, to become a whole new dish.
It’s ironic; we now make them with all fresh ingredients! Who would have come up with this combination if they hadn’t been going off?
I love it; the dessert of the rejected and leftovers, has become the dessert of choice!
Like Australia! The land of convicts and crooks has becomes the destination of choice!
It’s the way God does things – the overlooked and forgotten become the centrepiece. No-where do we see this more clearly than on the cross!
