Ten killed in supermarket shooting in US city of Boulder

Updated: 1.45pm (AEDT)
Ten people, including a police officer, have been killed in a mass shooting at a supermarket in the US city of Boulder, Colorado, on Monday afternoon.

Police said there was no ongoing threat and that a person of interest, who was injured, is in custody.

Boulder police Chief Maris Herold said the officer killed was Eric Talley, 51, who had been with Boulder police since 2010.

Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty said the names of victims would not yet be released as families were still being notified.

“This is a tragedy and a nightmare for Boulder County, and in response, we have cooperation and assistance from local, state and federal authorities,” he said.

The shooting at the King Soopers is believed to have occurred around 2.30pm. It was captured on video by witnesses and broadcast on YouTube.

President Joe Biden has been briefed on the incident, according to the White House.
