More than 30 parliamentarians in the UK were last week given a new “religious freedom toolkit” designed by religious freedom advocacy Christian Solidarity Worldwide.
The toolkit provides an overview of the issue of freedom of religion around the world and talks in detail about the situation in the 26 nations CSW works in around the world as well as information on the mechanisms – both inside and outside Parliament – for MPs and Peers to use in their efforts to promote the right to freedom of belief.
MP Fiona Bruce, chairperson of the Conservative Party’s Human Rights Commission, hosted the launch of the toolkit. She said she had been encouraged to see how religious freedom had “risen up the agenda” within the UK Parliament.
Mervyn Thomas, chief executive of Christian Solidarity Worldwide, said the organisation was there to resource Parliamentarians to “make a very loud noise about religious freedom”.
Also speaking at the launch, Bishop Angaelos, general bishop of the Coptic Orthodox Church in the UK, said the “toolkit, God willing, will provide for millions of advocates”.
“Hopefully this will transform passion into action.”
