The last two schoolboys of the 79 kidnapped from a school in west Cameroon still being held by their captors were released on Monday along with the school’s principal and a staff member, according to reports.
The BBC reports that the final four hostages were dropped off at a town about 24 kilometres from their school in Bamenda. Some 77 other children were freed last week following their kidnapping on 4th November from a school run by the Presbyterian Church.
It had been initially reported that all the children had been released last week but it later emerged two were still being held. The number of children kidnapped has also been reported as 80.
Cameroon’s Government blamed Anglophone separatists – who are fighting for independence in the English-speaking North-West and South-West regions – for the kidnappings but this has been denied by the rebels.
