Christians urged to pray for those affected by Boston Marathon bombing

Christians are being urged to pray for the families of those who were killed and injured after two bombs exploded close to the finish line at the Boston Marathon in the US on Monday.

Three people – including an eight-year-old boy – have been killed and 180 injured in the blasts which has been called an “act of terror” by authorities. At least 10 people have had limbs amputated.

Several more bombs placed along the course failed to detonate.

Steve McConkey, president of US-based track and field ministry 4 WINDS, called for prayer for “those injured and for the families of those who died at Boston” as well as to pray that the authorities find those responsible.

Mr McConkey, who was 100 metres away when a bomb went off during the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, said in a statement that Monday’s events “will change forever how road races are done in the USA”.

“You will see Olympic type security at all events, including more track and field meets. Sad day for the running community in the USA.”

The US-based Christian Emergency Network also urged people to pray, including for the first responders and the church would bring the hope of Christ in Boston and around the nation.
