CHRISTIANS MARCHING FOR STRONGER ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE ON SUNDAY AS COP21 KICKS OFF IN PARIS

27th November, 2015

Christians will be among the more than 20,000 people expected to join in the People’s Climate March in Sydney this weekend as they call for stronger action on climate change as world leaders gather in Paris to discuss the issue at COP21.

The event, one of a number of marches taking place around Australia on the weekend, kicks off at 1pm on Sunday from the Domain with music, dancing and speeches before, at 2pm, people will march through the city streets.

Up to 1,000 Christians and Pacific Islanders will gather to pray in solidarity before the march, meeting at noon at Pitt Street Uniting Church.

Other marches are taking place in all of Australia’s capital cities with tens of thousands expected to attend.

COP21, also known as the 2015 Paris Climate Conference, is being held with the aim of achieving a legally binding agreement on climate with the aim of keeping global warming below two degrees Celcius. It kicks off on Monday and runs until 11th December.

Correction: The article orginally said COP21 kicks off on Sunday. It actually starts on Monday.
