It is a miracle of the human spirit that we can experience sorrow while staying in a mansion, and joy in a concentration camp. If we could not, we would die with a change in circumstance as a chicken dies with a sudden change in the weather.
While this is a miracle, it also leaves us with a curse. We can experience deep sadness when everything around us is good.
How is this possible? There must be something wrong with us deep inside.
If this is true, our outside circumstances will never help us find peace – even in Heaven we could still be sad.
There must be something within us that must change. That’s the Gospel – Jesus comes not to change our outside world, but our inner heart. Once that happens we can’t help but change the world!
