Christians in Norway have embarked upon a 29 day pilgrimage from the capital of Oslo to Trondheim, where the World Council of Churches’ central committee is meeting late next month.
Rev Knut Refsdal, general secretary of the Christian Council of Norway, is leading the 638 kilometre pilgrimage and has invited church leaders and congregations to join in part or all of the pilgrimage. Meetings have been organised at various stops along the way, where discussions will be held on everything from Europe’s refugee crisis to religious extremism.
"The main message we want to share along the way is that religious and philosophical leaders of each community can help promote mutual understanding and respect for shared values and therefore deplore violent extremism and hate speech," Rev Refsdal said.
The WCC central committee meeting will take place from 22nd to 28th June.
