Everything Can Change in Forty Days: A Journey of Transformation in Christ

“It’s an uplifting, thoughtful walk which will enrich your spiritual life. Yet, as Watson concludes, transformation is a process.”
The number 40 has a particular significance in the Bible – remember the 40 years the Israelites spent wandering in the desert before entering the promised land and the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert before commencing His ministry?
American Jean Watson, an internationally renowned singer-songwriter and classically trained violinist (as well as radio host, public speaker – the list goes on), has picked up on that significance in her debut book, a 40 day devotional which she hopes can accompany a “journey of transformation”.
The book is divided into four parts – with the first seven days about getting “ready for change”, the next 14 about “being the change”, the next 12 about “bringing the change”, and the final seven about “calling forth change”.
Each day has a different reflection which span Watson’s own experiences – from the time when, as a divorced young mother of four young children struggling to survive “financially, emotionally and spiritually” she asked God for help and received a phone call that led to “the beginning of a new life” – as well as reflections on issues like spiritual oppression, forgiveness, healing and contentment.
Each day’s reflection is accompanied by a short prayer and a couple of questions to ponder for further reflection.
It’s an uplifting, thoughtful walk which will enrich your spiritual life. Yet, as Watson concludes: “God’s plan has never been to make us comfortable, happy or perfect, although one day we will be all of these things. His highest calling is for us to look like Jesus so we can then show Him to the world. We desire complete transformation while on earth, but even when God doesn’t answer our prayers the way we hope, His love is always at work deep within our hearts.”
Amen. Incidentally, Jean released her latest album, Sacred, late last year – stay tuned for our review.
