A windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water and were in danger. And they went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and they ceased, and there was a calm. He said to them, “Where is your faith?” – Luke 8:23-25
A very good friend of mine was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She is one of the loveliest natured people I know, with buckets of empathy for others and always ready to lend a hand.
Like us, their family went through the February, 2022, floods in the Northern Rivers and had to live out of home for a year.
They finally got back into their home and back on track, only to be hit with this news.
Right now, if her life was compared to the lake that Jesus and the disciples were out on in their boat, it would be pretty stormy.
After her diagnosis and an exploratory operation, my friend went and had eight chemotherapy sessions.
There was hope that the chemo would destroy the cancer, but after a visit to the surgeon, it was discovered that the only way to be sure that all of it was gone was to have a mastectomy.
Another wave to rock the boat.

I know as her friend, I have been crying out to God for Him to make the lake calm, that she would be healed, that her family wouldn’t have to see her go through so much pain.
Her family, church family and friends have surrounded her with support from meals, helping with the washing, picking the kids up after school and minding them when their parents can’t be there.
The lake seems really stormy but, like the disciples, we are calling out to our Saviour to make it calm again, for our friend to go through the waves and reach the safety of shore.
Only the other day, she received news from her surgeon that no further cancer was detected in the pathology and they were happy with how the surgery was healing.
We continue to call out, knowing it is Jesus who can calm the storm. That is where our faith is at.
