Australian missionary nun again ordered to leave The Philippines

An Australian missionary has again been ordered to leave The Philippines after the Bureau of Immigration ruled she was in violation of the conditions of her visa.

The bureau, which said she had violated the terms of her missionary visa, also ordered Sr Patricia Fox, a 71-year-old nun from the Congregation of Our Lady of Sion, be placed on its blacklist, prohibiting her return to the country.

Fox was first ordered to leave The Philippines in April – the same month President Rodrigo Duterte called her an undesirable alien – but that ruling was overturned last month when Fox was successful in an appeal to the Department of Justice.

Fox’s lawyers reportedly called the latest decision “persecution” and said they would be appealling the latest ruling. The Justice Secretary, Menardo Guevarra, has said Fox’s deportation would not be enforced while she appeals.

Fox has worked in The Philippines for 27 years and been involved in advocating for human rights and for the welfare of workers.
