Christians all around the world are being encouraged to join with churches in Syria who are joining in praying for their country on 11th May.
Open Doors says Christians in Syria will be meeting in churches, homes and other gathering places on the day to pray together for their country, embroiled in a civil war which has claimed more than 70,000 lives.
They are urging Christians all over the world to join them and to encourage their churches to pray on 12th May.
Steve Ridgway, Open Doors USA’s interim president and CEO, says that even in the midst of the war in Syria – with its “killings, kidnappings, homelessness, lack of food and shelter, and closing of school” – Christians are seing that “God’s hand is at work as all denominations are joining in passionate prayer”.
“Christians in Syria know only Jesus can bring redemption and true peace,” he says.
A letter received from Christian leaders states that the country is”experiencing a deep humanitarian crisis that is leading to the rapid loss of hope”.
” In the face of violence and persecution, our brothers and sisters are striving to keep their eyes on the Lord and seeking His face in their country. Even in pain, suffering, and death, God is using the church to accomplish His plan.”
