Twenty Christian leaders were among 110 people killed in a plane crash in Cuba late last week, according to authorities.
The Cuban Council of Churches reportedly confirmed that 10 evangelical pastors and their wives, all from the Church of the Nazaren, were among those who died when the plane crashed near Havana. They were reportedly travelling back to eastern Cuba having participated in a spirtual retreat.
Authorities were investigating the cause of the crash, the nation’s worst for 30 years, which happened just after midday on Friday soon after the plane took off from the Cuban capital’s airport.
Three survivors were reported to be in critical condition.
Carlos Sáenz, regional director of the church, reportedly asked for people to pray for those affected by the tragedy.
“Let’s ask God for peace and strength in these moments of so much doubt, shock and pain.”
