#SAVESAEED SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED TO HELP US PASTOR IMPRISONED IN IRAN

13th February, 2013

A international social media campaign has been launched to raise awareness of the plight of US pastor Saeed Abedini who is being held in an Iranian prison.

In late January, Pastor Abedini was sentenced to eight years in prison after it was ruled his Christian activities, including evangelism, threatened the national security of Iran.

The American Center for Law and Justice is spearheading a social media campaign which has reportedly gained the support of a number of high profile Christian musicians in the US – including TobyMac, Kevin Max, and Steven Curtis Chapman – as well as Christian radio stations.

The ACLJ is urging people to tweet the hashtag #SaveSaeed and to sign a petition at SaveSaeed.org.

The case, which has already gained international attention, has been brought to the notice of the United Nations Human Rights Council through a statement filed by the ACLJ’s European affiliate, the French-based European Centre for Law and Justice.

The statement claims Pastor Saeed has been repeatedly beaten in prison and denied medical care and was given a "sham trial".
