Song highlights suffering of Nigerian Christians

UK songwriter and worship leader Noel Robinson has written a song highlighting the plight of Nigerian Christians being targeted by militant groups like Boko Haram.

No More Sorrow, which is being released on iTunes today, was written as part of a campaign by persecuted church advocacy Release International which is calling on the Nigerian Government to do more to protect Christians in the run-up to elections next year.

The song, which Mr Robinson co-wrote the song with Release’s Lyanna Austin, features numerous worship leaders and singers including many UK-based NIgerians. Proceeds from its sale will be used to support Christians in Nigeria, providing food, trauma counselling, medical aid to survivors of attacks as well as repairs to damaged property.

Mr Robinson says the song’s release has proved timely. “When Release commissioned us to write a song that would give voice to the suffering of the persecuted church, we had no idea that the world media was going to be highlighting the plight of more than 200 young women who were kidnapped,” he said.

He described the song as a “plea to stop the persecution in Nigeria”.

Boko Haram, who still hold captive more than 200 schoolgirls in north-eastern Nigeria, have this week released a video mocking the social media campaign #BringBackOurGirls. In the video, the group’s leader Abubakar Shekau has reportedly said the girls would not be released until his “army” of fighters was released from prison.
