US headquartered organisation Mission India is calling for Christians across the globe to join in a day of prayer for the country as its general election comes to a close.
Dave Stravers, president of the Michigan-based organisation, told Mission Network News that some people are of the belief the election result will lead to the adoption of a nationwide anti-conversion law – already in place in five of the country’s 28 states.
“The effect of an anti-conversion law is to severely restrict evangelistic workers and churches, and in some cases, lead to the imprisonment of people who were baptized or those who baptised them,” he said.
MNN reported that two workers involved in Mission India programs were recently targeted by Hindu radicals including a woman who was beaten.
Mission India has designated 7th May as a day of prayer for India. They have divided the day into 15 minute periods and, as at the time, of writing, are still looking for people to fill some of the gaps.
“This is a big deal, and we”re asking the Lord to intervene in a way that would protect the witnessing activity of Christians, who”ve been so tremendously effective in bringing many, many thousands and even millions of people to know Jesus,” said Stravers.
The elections are set to conclude on 12th May.
