ASIA BIBI’S APPEAL HEARING ADJOURNED AGAIN IN PAKISTAN

10th September, 2014

The appeal hearing of Pakistani Christian mother Asia Bibi – sentenced to death in 2010 after being accused of blasphemy – has been adjourned yet again, this time at the request of her husband.

The hearing – which had been due to be heard on Tuesday and has previously been postponed numerous times – will now take place on 16th October.

According to a story in the Pakistan Christian Post, the request for the latest postponement was made by Ashiq Masih, Ms Bibi’s husband, who said his lawyer was not present.

Joseph Francis, national director of the Centre for Legal Aid, Assistance and Settlement (CLAAS) – a group which has been supporting Ms Bibi, told the Pakistan Christian Post he prayed there would be no further adjournments.
