One of the cosmic ironies of our existence is that we want independence from God. We want God to leave us alone so we can live our own life. Meanwhile, God wants nothing more than for us to become independent, mature adults!

Like all good parents, God’s ultimate desire is for us to very much become whole, healthy, independent people. God doesn’t want children sitting in nappies all their lives, totally dependent on Him for their every thought and meal!
Think about it! Parents want independent adult children – but an independence that is born out of a loving, trusting relationship with them as parents.
It would be totally inappropriate for us as parents to leave our kids on the street. That’s absolute abuse! Yet that’s what we expect God to give us – abuse!
Get your independence in God, not from God.
