What makes a successful marriage?

You have to learn to swallow your pride. Boy, you have to learn that – both parties. If you don’t learn to listen, understand, concede, compromise, let go of ego, apologise and forgive – you’ll create an autocracy – of one.
I say that like it’s easy: it’s not. We want to be right, to win. Sometimes we simply want our way, to control. That’s not a relationship, it’s a dictatorship.
You’ve got to do these things not because you want to lose, but because you want to love and be loved; that’s how you win. It’s no good being right, if you’re by yourself.
