HAVING A WHINGE

Being a parent and watching my kids, I’m reminded of my own childish behaviour.

I remember mum asking me to do a simple, two minute chore. “How come I have to do it? I did it last night? It’s my brother’s turn! I always have to do it.”

Man, my whinging would last 20 minutes – for a two minute job! If I was asked to do a 30 minute job, I’d sook for three hours; forget an hour-long chore, I’d be sooking under the house for the rest of the day!

Kids think that if they whinge loud and long enough, parents will give up, stop asking them; that they’ll get their own selfish way.

Fortunately, my mum didn’t give up – although my wife might argue she was just passed the baton.

Don’t give up parents. Kids, just do the two minute job!
