DAVID ADAMS takes a look at some of the winners in this year’s Faith & Form/IFRAA Religious Architecture and Art Awards…

The winners in this year’s Faith & Form/IFRAA Religious Architecture and Art Awards program include some stunning and beautiful new church designs.

The 28 award-winning projects were submitted in five primary categories including ‘religious architecture’, ‘liturgical/interior design’, ‘sacred landscape’, ‘religious arts’, and ‘unbuilt work’.

Faith & Form editor-in-chief Michael J Crosbie says the awards jury noted in particular the way in which many of the winners used natural light in creative ways.

“While natural light has long been a way of conveying a sense of immanence in religious art and architecture, the jury noted that it also contributes to sustainability and helps to reduce energy costs,” he says.

He says several jurors also spoke of how they were impressed with “how designers used an economy of means with simple, elegant materials to meet the needs of congregations”. “A reverence for natural materials was seen in many submissions, and in winning projects.”

Here’s a couple of the winners:
