• Despite the promises of the Jetsons, flying cars haven’t yet become widely available. But a Slovakian company hopes to change that (well, at least for some), last week in Monaco unveiling a light-frame plane which has a rear propeller and wings which fold back to transform it into a snazzy looking sports car. AeroMobil is apparently taking pre-production orders for a limited edition of two seater vehicle which will reportedly be priced at between €1.2 and €1.5 million. It’s expected to be made available to customers by 2020 but those purchasing it will apparently require a pilot’s licence as well as a driver’s licence.
• Ever dreamed of bowling a perfect 300? How about doing it in just under 90 seconds? That’s what American Ben Ketola managed to achieve earlier this month – 12 straight strikes in just 86.9 seconds, believed to be a new world record – using 10 different lanes at a bowling alley. “I saw it as a challenge,” Ketola said according to a report on Syracuse.com. “Next time I may set up all spares on the lanes and see how fast I can make those.”
• UK-headquartered Topshop copped some flack this week for its see-through plastic ‘jeans’ (complete with pockets, they’re apparently priced at about $US100) but another company, luxury fashion US-based retailer Nordstrom has also been in the news for a jeans-related item. It’s selling pairs of jeans with what the company describes as a “crackled, caked-on muddy coating that shows you’re not afraid to get down and dirty”. And the price? Almost $600, according to the company’s website.
