CASTING THE NET: SCRIPTURE EARTH

DAVID ADAMS on a website that aims to help immigrant communities access Scriptures in their “heart language”…

Scriptureearth.org

Scripture Earth

This website comes with a simple but powerful purpose – to utilise the reach of the internet to help people read Scriptures in what is known as their “heart language” – often the language a person’s mother will use when speaking to them when they are a baby – where-ever they might be in the world. The work of Wycliffe Bible Translators USA, the simple-to-navigate site was created with the aim of reaching people looking for Scriptures in their own language who no longer live in their home nation. As Wade Remer, of Wycliffe, recently told Mission Network News: “Wycliffe’s Scriptureearth.org website was started by three computer guys who realized that as the Scriptures were translated and printed and distributed, the distribution happened [in] foreign fields. But as people migrate [to the United States] and to other places around the world, they needed access to those Scriptures.” The website, which has been running for about six years, now features content from the Bible in just under 2,300 languages including translations by Wycliffe as well as other organisations. Listings are by language name or by country and the Scriptures come in a variety of different formats. A valuable – and growing – resource, particularly for those reaching out to migrant communities.
