The creation of the UK Evangelical Alliance, the Great Commission has been “designed to inspire greater passion for evangelism” and to equip and empower churches and individual Christians to act.
The website is divided into four main categories – watch, read, pray and act. The first – ‘Watch’ – features a series of videos in which individuals share a range of stories collected under three broad themes, ‘Changed lives’, ‘Different perspectives’ and ‘Sharing faith’ – but all of which illustrate the power of Jesus Christ in transforming lives if we but step out to share our faith; to impart the “Good News” as He has commanded us to so.
They’re stories like that of Balbinder, a lady of Sikh background who was led to Christ by a friend and found a peace she’d long been seeking, that of Othniel, who speaks of his own experiences – challenges and joys – in evangelising others, and that of Joe, a former drug addict who called out to God in his despair and found, with the help and support of others, a new freedom and calling in his life.
‘Read’ contains a series of written reflections concerning evangelism – everything from the Archbishop of Canterbury’s “top 10 tips for evangelism” through to ‘The importance of listening in evangelism” and a look at how open your church is to disabled people. And while these articles are written with the UK context in mind, they are mostly generally applicable in whatever context you’re in.
Under ‘Pray’ can be found resources to help encourage prayer – including articles on how prayer can be used as an outreach tool, reflections on the power of prayer and links to UK prayer networks, while under ‘Act’ can be found articles aimed at connecting people with a range of evangelism initiatives, tools and resources – whether it’s connecting friends yet to know Christ with helpful resources online or running a large scale evangelism event.
