Bible Places

At its essense a pictorial library of Bible-related sites in the Middle East, Bible Places is a great place to go for some images and more information about the locations of the stories in the Old and New Testaments. While you can order DVDs of images and license them for use in whatever project you may be working on, the site – which was founded by US Bible scholar Dr Todd Bolen in 2001 and which features images from more than 40 different photographers – is a great place for those simply looking for some new insights into the region, and, as well as covering geographical locations, there’s also some interesting details on the flora and fauna of the region as well as Jewish cultural life. Along with the images, it’s also possible to buy a host of other Bible lands-related resources – everything from satellite maps of Bible lands to posters showing the line of the kings of Judah and Israel – but other free to access features include a blog focused on news and analysis related to Biblical geography, history and archaeology including a handy weekly round-up. A great place to start if you’re interested in finding out more about the context in which the Bible was written – and in which Christianity was born.
