Ask NT Wright Anything
NT Wright (hosted by Justin Brierley)

NT Wright is one of the world’s leading New Testament theologians. He is senior research fellow at Wycliffe Hall at the University of Oxford in the UK and is the author of hundreds of books about Jesus, the early church and the Apostle Paul.

For quite a few months now there has also been a podcast available in which listeners can submit questions beforehand about anything to do with his vast sphere of knowledge.

 Ask NT Wright Anything

"Good theology is crucial to being a better follower of Jesus. It matters what we believe...And if you want good theology, it’s hard to go past someone like NT Wright. This podcast gives listeners access to topics which might not be covered even in the vast repository of his publications."

Broadcast through Premier Christian Radio in the UK, the Ask NT Wright Anything podcast is released fortnightly and contains all manner of topics raised by listeners.

Good theology is crucial to being a better follower of Jesus. It matters what we believe. Wright’s books have debunked and set right many myths in the church about common misconceptions by many Christians, particularly those of us of the evangelical persuasion.

And if you want good theology, it’s hard to go past someone like NT Wright. This podcast gives listeners access to topics which might not be covered even in the vast repository of his publications.

Some topics submitted by listeners in recent times include our response to conspiracy theories, US politics and prophecy, as well as speaking in tongues, pain and suffering, and women’s leadership.

The impressive thing about this podcast is that the listener is able to access views which have been shaped by decades of research from a theologian and academic who just loves Jesus.

NT Wright has been in high demand for many years for his intelligent research on a vast number of topics. He is one of those academics who has that special gift of being able to express his views in a way that is either highly academic or equally accessible to a popular audience. His For Everyone series of New Testament devotions is an example of the latter which is highly recommended for the average person.

One of Wright’s most recent works is his collaboration with Australian scholar, Michael Bird, of The New Testament In Its World. It is topics like the world of the New Testament and the early church in general that Wright specialises in. And this podcast gives listeners access to his responses to questions about the New Testament world that even the aforementioned vast body of work might not cover.

Each episode of this podcast is hosted by the bright voice of Justin Brierley at Premier Christian Radio. It is also sponsored by Wright’s publisher, SPCK, and by NT Wright Online, which hosts a number of courses by Wright.

"It is important to remember...if you listen to this invaluable podcast, that you might not agree with everything Wright says, and that that is healthy."

The advantage of having Brierley host this podcast is that it turns each episode into a sprightly conversation which can raise even more questions and topics than have been originally submitted. That just makes for more knowledge about how we can know and love Jesus more.

The goal of any good communication about faith should be to bring the listener/reader/viewer closer to the Jesus of the Gospels. Knowledge, of course, on its own is never enough. It even “puffs up” (I Corinthians 8:1) and can make us full of ourselves. That is the danger of listening to a podcast like this. And given how popular Wright is, it can be easy to take his word as gospel.

It is important to remember then, if you listen to this invaluable podcast, that you might not agree with everything Wright says, and that that is healthy.

On the other hand, if you subscribe to this podcast with a view to gaining access to one of the great minds of our time and the ultimate goal of learning how to be more like Jesus, this is a podcast definitely worth listening to regularly.
