WESLEY MISSION AND WAYSIDE CHAPEL CEOS AMONG THOSE NAMED IN QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY HONORS LIST

9th June, 2015

Sydney’s Wesley Mission superintendent Rev Dr Keith Garner and Wayside Chapel CEO Graham Long are both among those who received awards on this year’s Queen’s Birthday honors list.

Rev Dr Garner and Rev Long were both appointed Member of the Order of Australia (AM). Rev Dr Garner was given the award for "significant service to the community as an advocate for the people who are homeless and socially disadvantaged, and to pastoral care" and Rev Long for "significant service to the community through the provision of support to vulnerable and marginalised people in society".

Meanwhile, Dr John Falzon, national CEO of the St Vincent de Paul Society, was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for "service to the community through social welfare organisations".

More than 700 people were recognised in the list with eight receiving the top honor of the Companion of the Order of Australia. Among the more prominent recipients of awards were basketballer Lauren Jackson, Indigenous entertainer Archie Roach, and businessman, philanthropist and aviator Dick Smith.
