Nic Squiers claimed his fourth victory in the men’s open division at the Jesus Pro Am surf competition in New South Wales earlier this month while Phillipa Anderson did the same in the women’s.
The annual surfing competition – now in its 28th year – is hosted by Christian Surfers Australia and this year was held off Newcastle Beach on the weekend of 17th-18th November. The event includes both amateurs and professionals.

Veteran Squiers beat last year’s winner, Connor O’Leary with a high scoring ride in the final seconds to take out the $1,000 prize while in the women’s Anderson beat last year’s cadet champion Stephanie Single for the same amount.
Other winners in the two days of surfing included Jackson Giles, who won the cadet boys, and Holly Wawn, who won the cadet girls. Each received $500.
The event, which was held over over the same weekend as CityFest (see our earlier story here), also saw a visit from a whale which breached in the ocean while the women surfers were competing.
This year’s event was presented by Network Communication and World Vision. World Vision is again partnering with Christian Surfers tomorrow, 1st December, for the Paddle Against Poverty, which raises funds for the poor living in East Sumba, Indonesia (for more on that event, see www.paddleagainstpoverty.org).
