Prayer has been identified as the most important factor in supporting the wellbeing of people who attend church, according to a US survey.
The survey, conducted by Teleios Research, found that when asked how church or church members help their well-being, 59 per cent of respondants said through prayer, 56 per cent said they assisted spiritual growth, 54 per cent said they provided encouraging praise and worship and 38 per cent said the church did so through providing Bible-based fellowship.
The survery involved some 884 people recruited via the InstaPray Instagram account. Some 80 per cent attended church at least four times a month, almost three quarters were female and 56 per cent resided in the US, 16 per cent in Asia and 13 per cent in Europe. Thirty-nine per cent of respondants were aged between 18 and 30 years, 35 per cent aged between 11 and 17 years and 26 per cent were aged over 31.
Other findings showed that when asked how church leadership helped their wellbeing, 75 per cent of respondants said through Bible-based teaching and preaching, 51 per cent said through encouraging Bible-based speech and 44 per cent said through providing a powerful Biblical vision for the church.
Only eight per cent said church leadership helped their wellbeing because they implemented their suggestions while 16 per cent because they assisted their needs.
