Christians around the world to take part in “One Minute for Peace” initiative

Christians around the world will pause for prayer in the “One Minute for Peace” initiative on Thursday.

The Catholic initiative, which will take place at 1pm (Rome time), owes its origins to a meeting between Pope Francis, late Israeli President Shimon Peres, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas when they met in the Vatican Gardens on 8th June, 2014, and shared a short moment of prayer for peace.

“In our days, there is a great need to pray – Christians, Jews and Muslims – for peace,” the Pope said during an audience this week.

The Vatican has previously urged for “all people of good will” to take part in the global initiative whether at home, in the workplace or on the street.
