Call for a million American Christians to share the Gospel ahead of US election

US organisation Meet The Need has launched an initiative aimed at encouraging a million Christians to share the Gospel with someone – a neighbour, a co-worker or a stranger – by the date of the US election, 8th November.

Meet The Need, a non-profit which provides free software and services to connect people in need with those who can help, building connections between churches, charities and businesses in addressing issues like hunger, homelessness and child neglect, describes the Vote for Eternity 20:16 initiative as an “ice bucket challenge for service and evangelism”.

Jim Morgan, president of Meet The Need Ministries, said that with neither US presidential candidate standing “solidly in the Christian camp on the issues most of us hold dear”, people had been left “wondering about the future of our country – yet feeling powerless to do much about it”.

“We can only cast one vote for president but we can cast countless eternal votes – simple acts of service in Jesus’ name that will have an impact lasting far longer than just the next four years.”

He said the initiative was inspired by Matthew 20:25-26 in which Jesus told His disciples that whoever wants to become great among them must be a servant. “It’s the perfect verse to express our need as Christians to worry a little less about rulers and authorities and be servants instead,” he said.

The initiative’s name references another verse in Matthew, 20:16 – “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”

Meet The Need is encouraging people who become involved in their initiative to share their stories on Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #CastAnEternalVote and to challenge three friends to pay it forward.
