UN Secretary General Ban KI-moon has condemned an suicide bomb attack in Iraq in which at least 120 people were reportedly killed.
The so-called Islamic State (also known as ISIS) have claimed responsibility for the attack in the town of Khan Bani Saad, about 35 kilometres north of the capital of Baghdad. The bomb was apparently hidden in an ice truck which was driven into a busy open air marketplace before detonation on the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr marking the end of Ramadan.
A spokesman for Mr Ban said he hoped the perpetrators of the "heinous crime" would be swiftly brought to justice. “The Secretary-General’s thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.”
More than 170 people were reportedly injured in the blast although that figure is expected to rise.
