The team behind Australia’s National Day of Prayer and Fasting and other prayer leaders have joined in calling on Christians around the world to join in six days of prayer and fasting for the US from later this month.
The group are calling on Christians to join in prayer and fasting for the US from 30th April to 5th May, a period which spans both America’s National Day of Repentance on 30th April and the 64th annual National Day of Prayer on 5th May. It also represents the last six days of a 40 day prayer event leading up to the National Day of Prayer in the US.
In a statement, Warwick Marsh, one of the NDOPF organisers, said Australians had joined in every war Americans had fought since World War II and that the US was now in a “spiritual battle for its very survival”. “We and the nations of the world now join with them in this battle too,” he said.
In a promotional video, Mr Marsh said the US has been a “blessing to the Earth”. “America has given aid to the poor. American has helped nations in times of trouble right around the world. It’s now time for us to stand in the gap on behalf of this nation and to pray for revival, pray for reformation, pray for renewal.”
Wesley Leake, also involved in the NDOPF, is heading to the US to take part in Azusa Now, a mass rally taking place in Los Angeles this weekend to mark the 110th anniversary of the Azusa Street Revival. Calling on people around the world to join in the six days of prayer later this month, he said he was “excited” about the unity.
