Christians encouraged to pray for G20 leaders in lead-up to November summit

Christians are being urged to pray for world leaders in the lead-up to the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Brisbane next month.

A website – Prayer for Leaders – has been specifically created ahead of the summit and suggests people pray for a different world leader each day. It is hosted by Brisbane-based business networking and training group Business Blessings on behalf of local churches.

The Prayer for Leaders website

Wesley Leake, the CEO of Business Blessings and also a member of the team behind the National Day of Prayer and Fasting, said the G20 summit presented an opportunity for Christians to pray for world leaders and the economic decisions they’ll be making.

“There’s not an aspect of the G20 that won’t affect all of us because the decisions they make will impact on our jobs, our property prices and our economic growth in the future,” he said.

“Praying for a different leader every day is a meaningful, powerful way to have a voice and a say in our future.”

Each day the website provides biographical details of a different world leader along with a sample prayer and contact details for the world leader – the website encourages those praying to write to the leader to let them know they are being prayed for. There are also links to a range of articles about praying for leaders.

Mr Leake, who is looking to continue the website after the summit with the focus likely to turn toward Australian leaders, is also involved in organising a church service which will be held on 16th November at the City Tabernacle Baptist Church in Brisbane. Former Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson will be a guest speaker and world leaders or their representatives have been invited to attend. These will be presented with a special ‘G20 Bible’, created in conjunction with the Bible Society.

As many as 4000 delegates and 3,000 media representatives will be in the city for the summit which takes place on 15th and 16th November.
