BALI NINE PAIR REPORTEDLY DENIED CHOSEN SPIRITUAL SUPPORT IN LEAD-UP TO EXECUTION IN INDONESIA

Updated 5.30pm 28th April, 2015

Bali nine pair Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran have been denied access to their spiritual supporters in the lead-up to their imminent executions, according to reports.

Australia’s ABC is reporting that they had been informed the men’s chosen religious counsellors will not be with Australians Chan and Sukumaran in the final moments before their execution.

The ABC and other news organisations are also reporting that the two pastors, nominated by the men to be their final support, have also been denied access today to the prison island of Nusakambangan where they are being held ahead of their executions.

The news comes after earlier assurances reportedly made to diplomats that Christian pastors Christie Buckingham and David Soper would be able to be with the men in their final moments.

A 72-hour notification period for the two men – both convicted drug traffickers – and seven other death row criminals expires at midnight tonight.
