At least six people have been killed in an attack on a church in northern Burkina Faso, close to the country’s border with Mali.
Gunmen, who arrived on motorbikes, opened fire as people were leaving the Protestant church following the end of the Sunday service in the village of Silgadji, reportedly killing the pastor, his two sons and three other worshippers.
It is unclear who the attackers were but a number of Islamic extremist groups are known to operate in the area.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, five teachers were killed in the country’s east on Friday in an incident attributed to Islamic extremists.
The West African state, where about a third of population are Christians, has been battling jihadist violence since 2015.
