WOMAN AND TWO SONS REPORTEDLY ATTACKED IN EASTERN UGANDA BECAUSE OF THEIR FAITH IN CHRIST IN LATEST INCIDENT OF PERSECUTION

18th August, 2015

A woman and her two sons were attacked last week by their father and other relatives after converting to Christianity in what Morning Star News has reported is the latest in a series of violent incidents in eastern Uganda in recent months.

The news organisation reported that the latest attack came after the woman and her two sons, aged 16 and 18 years, converted to Christianity three months ago after attending an open-air evangelistic event. The woman had reportedly since secretly attended church meetings.

Morning Star News says the latest incident – which left the woman unable to speak after she was beaten and strangled and one of the boys with a broken arm – comes after the wife of a former sheikh was killed by poisoning after she put her faith in Christ and the 17-year-old daughter of a pastor was gang-raped because the church leader ignored their warnings that he stop worship services.

Uganda”s population is 85 per cent Christian and 11 per cent Muslim. The country”s constitution and other laws provide for religious freedom, including the right to propagate one”s faith and convert from one faith to another.
