At least 82 people have been killed on the Indonesia island of Lombok after a magnitude seven earthquake, a week after an earlier quake killed more than a dozen people there.
The latest earthquake, which shook buildings as far away as Denpasar in Bali when it struck early on Sunday night, saw thousands of Lombok’s residents flee their homes. Most of the deaths reportedly occurred from falling debris in the northern and western parts of the island.
A tsunami warning was issued but later cancelled.
Australian Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton, who was on the island for a regional counter-terrorism meeting, told Fairfax Media that the earthquake was “powerful enough to put us on the floor”.
Australia’s Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said he would be offering aid to Indonesia in the aftermath of the earthquake.
There were calls on social media for people to keep Indonesia in their prayers.
