I’ve noticed something happening to me. Something happening so slowly it would be easy to overlook. Something so disturbing it chills me to the bone.

Here it is: The more affluent I am, the less compassionate I become.
The more money I have saved, the more I look down on those who haven’t got much money. I blame them and close my heart to them. It’s their fault.
But thank God through my work I meet people exactly like me who are doing it tough due to illness, injury, circumstance and dumb bad luck.
It helps me realise life isn’t that simple; we’re all one misfortune away from poverty.
But, wow, is this what money does to you? Slowly turns your heart cold? No wonder St Paul wrote that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.
