STUCK IN THE IMMEDIATE

I heard on the radio recently, that if 20 people present to a doctor with late onset diabetes – despite the condition being curable with diet and exercise – only one out of those 20 will make the lifestyle changes needed to heal themselves. One in 20!

Now, while there are a number of factors to explain this, one is that we are stuck in the immediate. There is something in the human condition that amplifies the immediate over everything else.

We don’t think anything can change. As it is, it will always be. Despite the absolute scientific evidence that we can change, and it will help us, we can’t gather the will to push past inertia!

If we can’t make good decisions based on a short look into the future, how could we ever make decisions based on eternity? Are you stuck in the immediate?
